Siberian Cats and Kittens Page
The Siberian Cats, aka Siberian Forest Cats, are quite common in
Russia and they are a very ancient breed. The first Russian Siberian cat to be imported
in USA arrived in 1990. They are still a recent breed in USA but they are getting
more and more popular. They are now accepted in the TICA, CFA, ACFA and several other
cat associations in USA.
They are large, strong and well muscled cat. They differ from the Maine Coon and Norwegian Forest Cats in that they have a general impression of roundness. The head is well-rounded, with a rounded muzzle and chin.
The Russian Siberian cat has a sweet personality to go with the sweet expression of it's face. It is a robust cat and makes a loving, gentle and loyal companion.
Please note: Many Siberians are claimed to be "hypo-allergenic". This means that their FeL-d1 protein in their saliva is lesser than that of most other cats. Each cat has different FeL-d1 levels and can vary depending on age, if they are spayed or netured, or if they are pregant or lactating, etc. Every human also reacts differently to this breed. Some have no problems living with the Siberians, other still do, therefore there are no guarantees on your individual reaction to a Siberian. Many people are asking for "light colored females" which is based off what they are reading on the internet that they are lesser in producing the FeL-d1 protein. In my experience, this not the case! According to one website, "a new study, conducted at the Wellington Asthma Research Group in New Zealand, suggests that the color and coat length of a cat have no effect at all on how much allergen she or he produces. Researchers in the study measured the amount of Fel D1 in dust from living rooms in 42 single-cat households, but no matter if the resident cat was black, white or calico, there was no significant difference in the amount of Fel D1 found." Since every cat has a different level of Fel-d1, you should visit the cat that you're interested in adopting in order to determine if you're allergic to the cat. Visitations are only allowed when I have kittens available to reserve. I do not allow cattery visits and do not have an appropriate environment setup for an "allergy test" with my cats. |
